This 12 week course will provide you with a solid understanding of basic anatomy for dance and movement. It will help you begin to develop the ability to see movement through an anatomical lens, allowing you to refine your skills as a performer and teacher. You will:
Learn the basics of injury (What is injury? How do we think about prevention and recovery)
Explore class and exercise design (What makes a great class or an effective movement exercise? What structures and choices will create the results you are seeking?)
Cuing: how can we use language effectively to achieve quick and stable change?
Articulate your teaching or performance philosophy (How do you see your role as an educator or coach? And what are your responsibilities?)
STRUCTURE
EVERY WEEK:
An educational video lecture, released at the beginning of each week
Weekly live meeting, approximately 2.5 hours, made up of:
One-hour movement practice class, led by Anneke and related to the week’s lecture material**
A Q&A period to discuss, workshop, and apply the material covered in the week’s lecture will follow practice class
Weekly video of movement exercises or tasks to practice independently. The practice material will reinforce the lecture material covered.
End of the week learning assessments: the format of these assessments will vary depending on the material covered but may include brief quizzes, written or verbal recap of material, or short tasks to apply the material covered. The goal is to continually reinforce and support the students’ mastery of the course material.
